ESB Toolkit Tip #14: Run devenv.exe to enable the "BizTalk ESB Itinerary Designer" project template in Visual Studio

Since the RTM version of BizTalk 2013 is occasionally the "BizTalk ESB Itinerary Designer" project template not available in Visual Studio 2012 after installing the ESB Toolkit. Several people from the BizTalk community like Brian Loesgen and Colin Meade also experienced this and blogged about it. After installing ESB Toolkit 2.3 in BizTalk 2013 R2 I have seen it again so also in Visual Studio 2013 it still happens!

How to resolve the issue

Fortunately the problem is easily to solve. Open a Visual Studio command prompt, and run “devenv.exe /setup”. This forces Visual Studio to merge the resource metadata that describes menus, toolbars, and command groups, from all available VSPackages.

Then check again in Visual Studio if the project template is available
